The Holidays

Today is the first day of December, 24 days until Christmas Eve. As a child, these days would go by so slowly. As a mother, these days would go by so FAST!

When my sons were little, I started a tradition of doing the Advent Wreath, which in my faith is a time of preparation for Christmas. The Christmas Season doesn’t actually begin until Christmas Eve. http://catholiceducation.org/articles/religion/re0132.html

The preparation, the tree trimming and the Christmas carols were such a joyous time. Now, it is not so joyous, however, I carry on the tradition of the Advent Wreath and look forward to Christmas Eve.

Towards that goal, today, I went to a Christmas Bazaar with my sister and bought a new Christmas ornament.

Happy Spring!

I just returned from West Texas where my dad and one of my younger sisters live. I love visiting because it’s such a quiet place – no whooshing of cars on the freeway, no traffic jams and at night I can see a star-filled sky. Somehow, it looks clearer and bigger in my little home town.

On the way I saw some crepe myrtles. I remember when my sons were little and the 5-hour trip seemed to take forever for them. To take their minds off the long trip, I said, “Look at the purple trees.” At first, they didn’t believe me. “Purple trees?”
